How Workaway.info works:
Workaway.info holds a database of families, individuals or organizations in a variety of different countries who have registered with us and are looking for volunteer help in a whole range of different fields. From painting to planting, building to babysitting or shopping to shearing, Workaway.info aims to introduce working travellers and language learners to like minded hosts, without having to pay expensive agency fees. Our hosts are based in many different countries with more and more signing up every month. So whether you planning that big trip to Australia, thinking of taking a year to do Europe or want to immerse yourself in South American culture. Workaway is the answer for low cost travel!

As a traveller or language learner (or in many cases both!) volunteering with a family or for a small organization is an ideal way to get to know the real side of a foreign country or to immerse yourself completely in a foreign language. You know that you will have the security of a place to stay with welcoming people for the price of a few mails or phone calls. However, remember it takes a lot of thought for someone to invite you into their home, so be prepared to volunteer and help as muchas you can! It is not a hotel or a youth hostel it is an exchange- a few hours work per day in exchange for food and board. Housework i.e. cooking, washing up should be shared. The possibilities for exchanges are endless- You can use it to enable you to travel around a country for very low cost, you can use it to practice a language you have spent many years learning but have never had the opportunity to practice with native speakers, or use it to learn new skills and meet new people!

Remember though Workaway.info is not an agency. We enable you to find placements. It is up to you to make the contact, to introduce yourselves with an e-mail. To organize your travel arrangements, to arrange your travel visas, and to discuss directly with your host the ways in which you can volunteer and help..

Once you´ve signed up as well as contacting hosts, hosts are are able to search though the workawayer database. Hosts often look for volunteers with specific skills such a certain language or practical skill.


Whatever language you are studying, there is no doubt that the best way to learn is to go to the country where the language is actually spoken and immerse yourself completely.

One of Workaway.info´s main objectives is to faciltate contact between possible host families and students.

We feel that the many advantages of living with a host family far outweigh the alternatives.

The biggest advantage, of course, is the economic one. No agents to pay, no host families to pay and no school fees!
In our experience Workawayers learn more staying and working with a host family than they do in a 4 week course at a language school. They are not put into a class of students with the same mother tongue and they have the opportunity to mix directly with with native speakers of the country of their choice.
They have a reason to communicate. Working with somebody is often the best way to start conversations and help expand your vocabulary.
